Mark Garrett to be proposed for election to the Supervisory Board of BASF SE at the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting 2026

The Supervisory Board of BASF SE has today (February 25, 2026), upon proposal of the Nomination Committee, nominated Mark Garrett (63) for election as shareholder representative on the Supervisory Board. The election is to take place at the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting of BASF SE on April 30, 2026.

Mark Garrett is to succeed Liming Chen (66), who will resign from his Supervisory Board mandate at his own request at the end of the 2026 Annual Shareholders’ Meeting. Chen has been a member of the Supervisory Board of BASF SE since October 2020. The election of Garrett is initially for the remainder of the term of the outgoing Supervisory Board member, that is, until the end of the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in 2028.

“As a result of his more than thirty-year career, Mark Garrett is intimately familiar with all key areas of the chemical industry,” said Dr. Kurt Bock, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BASF SE. “He has successfully led several companies as CEO and also brings extensive experience as a member and chairman of supervisory boards of both publicly listed and private companies. His rich entrepreneurial background will further strengthen the competence of BASF’s Supervisory Board.”

After studying in Australia (Bachelor in Economics, Graduate Diploma in Applied Information Systems), Mark Garrett began his career at Ciba‑Geigy in 1986. After holding various professional positions in Switzerland and the United States, other roles have included Chief Executive Officer of Borealis AG from 2007 to 2018, Chair of the Board of Directors of Axalta Coating Systems LLC from 2019 to 2021, and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of OMV Aktiengesellschaft from 2020 to 2023. Mark Garrett holds Australian and Swiss citizenship.

The guiding principle for the composition of the Supervisory Board is to ensure qualified supervision and guidance for the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE.
