Infant care manufacturer Comotomo uses Avient color-matched Ultrason® in next-generation baby bottle

  • Over-molded ring made of PPSU Ultrason® P 2010 by BASF combines excellent mechanical and chemical performance with Avient’s Colorant Chromatics high-temperature blue color formulation
  • High-performance material provides baby bottle with safe feeding experience

Comotomo, a leading Korean manufacturer of innovative infant care products, now uses colored Ultrason® P 2010 in its next-generation baby bottle to achieve the desired color without compromising safety. The bottle’s silicone body incorporates an over-molded ring made of the BASF polyphenylsulfone Ultrason® P 2010 (PPSU) as a high-quality base polymer combined with a specific blue color using Avient’s Colorant Chromatics high-temperature color formulation expertise for color concentrates and pre-colored solutions. This combination provides the bottle with full rigidity and ensures a safe feeding experience for infants as the colored PPSU is approved for food contact according to all important standards like FDA, FC and GB.

The use of Ultrason® offers several advantages for baby bottles, including exceptional chemical resistance, excellent dimensional stability, and resistance to superheated steam. Thus, the bottle can be cleaned in dishwashers, boiling water, microwave ovens, and in bottle sterilizers. Ultrason® P 2010 shows high heat resistance and good impact strength to withstand the high temperatures and pressures during the silicone overmolding process. Parents can trust in the quality, safety, and easy handling of this innovative bottle, which combines Comotomo's expertise in infant care products with the advanced material solutions provided by Avient and BASF.

"We are proud to cooperate with Avient and BASF to introduce this next-generation baby bottle to the market," said Hank Choi, Head of R&D center at Comotomo. "By leveraging our collective expertise on product, material, and colors, we have created a product that meets the critical quality requirements of baby bottles. It was Avient’s and BASF’s strong track record that drove our decision to approach them, and they impressively demonstrated their commitment to meeting the highest standards for food safety and product quality, making them the ideal partners for Comotomo.” The new baby bottle, manufactured at Comotomo's state-of-the-art plant in South Korea, is currently available in China.

Ultrason® is the trade name for BASF’s product range of polyethersulfone (Ultrason® E), polysulfone (Ultrason® S) and polyphenylsulfone (Ultrason® P). The high-performance thermoplastic is used to manufacture water filtration membranes, stylish, durable and safe household and catering applications as well as lightweight components for the automotive and aerospace industries. Ultrason® brands can substitute thermosets, metals and ceramics in many applications because of their extraordinary property profile. Avient and BASF collaborate to develop colored grades of Ultrason® high-performance polymers combined with Avient’s Colorant Chromatics high-temperature color formulation expertise, offering customers in various industries a comprehensive range of color options along with in-depth technical support.
