Professional farmer kit from BASF helps improve farm safety

  • One-of-a-kind kit designed for smallholder farmers in the Philippines
  • Helps farmers achieve good agricultural practice and safe farming environment

Nueva Ecija, Philippines – May 18, 2016 – Smallholder farmers in the Philippines can improve safety on the farm with a new professional farmer kit. Developed by BASF, it aims to help smallholder farmers minimize their exposure to crop protection products by following good agricultural practices.

The kit consists of a pair of nitrile gloves, three particulate filter masks, a set of protective eyewear and an easy-to-understand, picture-based instruction leaflet. In the near future, the kit will be available for smallholder farmers to purchase locally at an affordable price.

The kit was introduced at a launch event held at PhilRice, Science City of Munoz in Nueva Ecija with attendance from more than one hundred top rice farmers from Luzon, the local farmers’ association, representatives from CropLife and the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority.

“Safety is an everyday effort that involves everyone working on the farm, living on the farm, and nearby. As a leading producer of crop protection products, we not only offer our solutions to farmers, but also our support to ensure the responsible use of our products. With the launch of the professional farmer kit, we are helping farmers in the Philippines work in a safe environment and produce safe, healthy food,” said Roy Comagon, Managing Director, BASF Philippines, Inc.

While farming is the biggest job on earth, farmers are not facing the challenge alone. BASF supports productive, sustainable agriculture, allowing farmers to protect the land they hold in trust for future generations while meeting the demands of modern society.
