BASF going direct to the end-consumer in Japan with Basta® AL

  • Ready-to-use formulation for easily control of weeds around homes, parking lots and gardens
  • Available at home centers and Amazon nationwide from 2021

Tokyo, Japan – January 28, 2021 – BASF is launching the home-use herbicide Basta AL. It will roll out nationwide from January to April and be available at home centers and on Amazon.

Basta AL is designed to be ready-to-use herbicide for easy handling even the first-time herbicide user. Using the attached shower-type nozzle, users can directly apply to weeds. It can be used in various places including around trees, flower beds and gardens as well as around parking lots. Users can plant garden trees and flowers the next day after spraying.

Basta AL shows significant effect on a wide variety of weeds including grass, broadleaf, annual and perennial weeds. It is also effective against difficult-to-control weeds such as wire grass and Sumatran fleabane. Weeds begin to wither in 2 to 5 days after spraying, and weeding is completed in 7 to 14 days.

Being a contact herbicide that affects only the parts of the plant being sprayed, impact to garden trees or flowers is limited if accidentaly sprayed. The active ingredients of the herbicide will not transfer to roots and affect the whole plant. The active ingredient of Basta AL is rapidly decomposed by soil microorganisms, therefore no residue will remain in the soil over time.

"BASF offers a wide range of agrochemical products intended primarily for professionals such as farmers. Basta AL is the first home-use herbicide marketed by BASF Japan. Because this product has both high weeding efficiency and ease of use, general consumers can solve their weed problems more easily." said Akihiro Harase, Sales, Agro Solutions Division, BASF Japan.
