Following the corporate donation for immediate disaster response to the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria of €500,000 to the German Red Cross, BASF Stiftung launches an employee donation campaign for colleagues to support the people in the affected region.
BASF will double the amount donated by the employees!

While emergency humanitarian aid focus on basic relief supplies, the need for help will carry on. With BASF's donation campaign in favor of BASF Stiftung, we want to raise money for disaster recovery activities after the first wave of help will slow down.

What happens with the donations?

While most organizations and donation campaigns focus on immidiate emergency aid, we want to focus on mid-termin support.

We will focus on disaster recovery activities after the first wave of help will slow down.

A donation committee comprising local and global BASF representatives as well as BASF Stiftung will decide on relevant and trusted organizations on the ground that address the biggest needs in the affected region most effectively. Examples could be providing temporary housing, reconstruction of educational and medical facilities or strengthening community, health and psychological support.

We will inform you about the use of the donations!

We are deeply concerned by the pictures we see from the earthquake region and by what we hear from our local teams. Our thoughts are with the people affected by the devastating events.

The effects of this tragic disaster will have a long-lasting impact on the people. They need our support even after the immediate emergency aid.

What is the role of BASF Stiftung in the employee donation campaign?

BASF Stiftung collects donations from BASF employees and is responsible for ensuring that the money reaches where it is needed.

The charitable, non-profit BASF Stiftung supports people in need with the aim of improving their living conditions in the long term. The focus is on health and empowerment. The foundation has a local and global impact and contributes to BASF's corporate strategy. For more than 20 years, the foundation has been involved in disaster relief and works mainly with UN organizations.

Why does BASF Stiftung support in addition to the emergency aid measures already taken?

BASF's Crisis Team (CMT) immediately supported employees in the affected region. The need for support in the current situation as well as in reconstruction is not yet foreseeable, but difficult consequences are already emerging.

The campaign is also a response to the commitment of BASF employees worldwide who have signaled their willingness to donate.

Can I donate not only money but also goods like clothing, food, etc.?

The hardship of the affected people and thus their need for support is great. We highly appreciate that many colleagues are offering to make in-kind donations. However, right now experts consider monetary donations to be the better way than donations in kind.

To ensure that aid actually arrives where it is needed, it is important not to unnecessarily burden or even block urgently needed logistics and assistance structures. Well-intentioned but uncoordinated aid supplies fill warehouses, tie up transport and sorting capacities. Unfortunately, they do not help, but hinder humanitarian work on the ground.

The aid organizations procure relief supplies according to the current needs, especially in these difficult conditions. For those reasons we highly recommend to make monetary donations. If employees want to donate goods, please consider the current recommendations of appropriate humanitarian aid organizations.

Can I get a donation receipt?

It is not possible to issue a donation receipt without a residence in Germany. For people with a German residence, donations up to 300 Euros can be claimed tax deductible without a donation receipt. If you donate more than 300 Euros, please send an email to funding@basf-stiftung.org with your GERMAN postal address, the donation amount and donation method (bank transfer, PayPal, credit card – as soon as the option is available) so that we can send you a donation confirmation.
