Stephan Kothrade was born in 1967 in Landshut, Germany. He has a doctorate in Organic Chemistry from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich.

He is responsible for BASF’s global businesses in Monomers, Performance Materials, Petrochemicals, and Intermediates. Furthermore, he oversees the region Europe, and the startup trinamiX.
