Information about Clearfield® Production System in Malaysia

Many farmers have questions about how to best protect their crop from weedy rice and achieve consistent yields of up to eight tons per hectare. An excellent way to achieve this is the full, four-part Clearfield Production System. There is no other system available in Malaysia today that achieves the same results; this system is a crucial tool to help Malaysia reach self-sufficiency in food. The Clearfield Production System includes:

  1. Certified seeds of the MR 220CL1 and MR 220CL2 variety
  2. Registered BASF herbicide under the ONDUTY® brand
  3. Tenagam surfactant, to adhere the herbicide to the soil even in wet conditions
  4. The full Clearfield Rice Cultivation Product Stewardship Guideline

Farmers can get the desired results over longer timelines when the full, four-part Clearfield Production System is used, even when resistant weedy rice is present.

However, counterfeit seeds and chemicals, or those used separately, outside of the four-part Clearfield Production System, will not get the desired results: Malaysian farmers must be protected from such illegal products.

Resistance management tools are available in the Product Stewardship Guideline, an integral part of the complete system.

Frequently Asked Questions

The following questions and answers are important for farmers and the agricultural community to keep in mind:

Is the Clearfield Production System still effective in managing weedy rice despite resistance?
It is effective when the full, four-part system is used. Counterfeit seeds and chemicals, or those used separately, outside of the four-part package, will not get the desired results. The development of resistant strains makes it even more important to use the full, four-part system.

How can I avoid counterfeit seeds and chemicals?
Purchase only from an authorized dealer or paddy agent.

Why does it cost more for the Clearfield Production System than buying seeds in the market?
The Clearfield Production System is effective when the full, four-part system is used. The total cost includes seeds, herbicide, surfactant, and the Product Stewardship Guideline.

Can I use the Clearfield Production System with machines like Harvester?
Yes. Be sure to follow the Product Stewardship Guideline, especially in land preparation.

I bought CL1 seeds in the market last year for the first time and got a good result. Why do I need to use the whole four-part system?
The effectiveness of the Clearfield Production System cannot be achieved over the long term when the full, four-part system is not used.

Is there an alternative system to control weedy rice in Malaysia?
There is no other system to control weedy rice. The only system that has proven to work is the Clearfield Production System.

If I use the Clearfield Production System, am I guaranteed to get a high yield?
Many factors affect yield, including other kinds of pests and disease, weather conditions, etc. However, Clearfield Production System, when used properly, can make a strong contribution to controlling weedy rice.
