BASF strengthens its position in the market and achieves major progress on restructuring and portfolio measures

BASF was able to increase earnings in nearly all segments in the second quarter of 2026. Stronger prices and higher volumes contributed to this rise. “We further strengthened BASF’s position in the market and achieved major progress with our restructuring as well as portfolio measures,” said BASF CEO Dr. Markus Kamieth when presenting the company’s half-year results, together with CFO Dr. Dirk Elvermann. On July 15, 2026, BASF had already pre-released preliminary figures for the second quarter of 2026 because EBITDA before special items of €2.4 billion significantly exceeded average analysts’ expectations. BASF raised its earnings outlook for the full year 2026.

Bemotrizinol, marketed by BASF as Tinosorb® S, receives regulatory approval in the United States as the first new sunscreen active ingredient approved by the FDA since 1999

Bemotrizinol (BEMT), marketed by BASF as Tinosorb® S (天来施® S), has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a sunscreen active ingredient. Developed by Ciba Specialty Chemicals and later integrated into BASF through acquisition, BEMT is now available to the U.S. sunscreen market as one of the most effective UV filters. It is also the first new UV filter to be approved by the FDA in 27 years. This marks a significant advancement in sun protection solution for consumers globally.

BASF’s engineering plastics plants in Shanghai and Zhanjiang certified ISCC PLUS

BASF’s engineering plastics plant in Minhang, Shanghai, and at the Zhanjiang Verbund site in Guangdong Province have been certified under ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification)[1]. The certification covers renewable and recycled feedstocks and verifies their sustainable origin and allocation through a mass balance approach, offering independent traceability across the value chain.

Infant care manufacturer Comotomo uses Avient color-matched Ultrason® in next-generation baby bottle

Comotomo, a leading Korean manufacturer of innovative infant care products, now uses colored Ultrason® P 2010 in its next-generation baby bottle to achieve the desired color without compromising safety. The bottle’s silicone body incorporates an over-molded ring made of the BASF polyphenylsulfone Ultrason® P 2010 (PPSU) as a high-quality base polymer combined with a specific blue color using Avient’s Colorant Chromatics high-temperature color formulation expertise for color concentrates and pre-colored solutions. This combination provides the bottle with full rigidity and ensures a safe feeding experience for infants as the colored PPSU is approved for food contact according to all important standards like FDA, FC and GB.
