BASF, San Fang and Nichetech collaborate to advance circular economy in footwear industry with new TPU films

Taiwan – December 11, 2025 – BASF, San Fang Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd. (San Fang), and Nichetech Advanced Materials Co., Ltd. (Nichetech) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop sustainable solutions for the footwear industry, with a focus on thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) products and a shared ambition to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

BASF launches high-performance dispersant production line in Nanjing, China

BASF has officially commissioned its high-performance dispersant production line at the Jiangbei New Material Technology Park, Nanjing, China. This investment enables local production of the most advanced dispersants using Controlled Free Radical Polymerization (CFRP) technology. The overall global capacity increase improves supply reliability and flexibility, along with production from the company’s site in Heerenveen, the Netherlands.
Climate protection is a central component of the BASF strategy. For many years, the company has been continuously reducing its CO2 emissions. For further significant reduction, innovative processes such as methane pyrolysis are developed as part of our Carbon Management R&D Program. In the project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Germany), BASF researchers are working on a new reactor concept in which hydrogen can be produced without CO2 emissions. The first milestone has now been reached. Our test facility at the Verbund site in Ludwigshafen (Germany) has started in experimental mode.

BASF and ExxonMobil have formed a strategic collaboration to advance methane pyrolysis technology, a next step toward delivering efficient, cost-competitive low-emission hydrogen solutions for industrial use. The companies have signed a joint development agreement to co-develop methane pyrolysis technology, including plans to construct a demonstration plant aimed at commercial readiness.

BASF PolyTHF® technology now available for licensing

BASF will start offering state-of-the-art polytetrahydrofuran (PolyTHF®) 1800 production technology licenses to clients and partners. BASF is one of the leaders in the technology development of PolyTHF, with three PolyTHF production assets globally: Caojing, China; Ludwigshafen, Germany; and Geismar, the United States.
