New phytase from BASF to unlock vital nutrients for Taiwanese feed industry
- Unprecedented enzyme stability sets a new benchmark for feed phytase technology
- Helps swine better utilize phosphorus and important nutrients, bringing economic and environmental benefits
- New product to be showcased at Livestock Taiwan Expo 2017, September 28 to 30 (Booth L35)
Taipei, Taiwan – September 28, 2017 – BASF is introducing its new enzyme for animal nutrition, Natuphos® E, to the Taiwanese market. With unprecedented enzyme stability throughout various feed production processes, Natuphos E, a new generation phytase, helps swine and poultry utilize phosphorus and key nutrients more efficiently, bringing a wide range of benefits to local farmers and the animal feed industry. BASF is showcasing the new solution at Taiwan’s first agriculture technology exhibition, Livestock Taiwan Expo, from September 28 to 30 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.
The majority of phosphorus in grains and oilseeds is bound to phytic acid, an anti-nutritive factor found in feed. Phytate-bound phosphorus can be used only with difficulty by animals such as pigs and poultry, and is therefore lost as a potential nutrient and excreted. As a result, manufacturers need to supplement the feed with either inorganic phosphates or very effective phytases to make sure the animals are supplied adequately with the required amounts of the essential mineral phosphorus.
As the first company to market a phytase for feed more than 25 years ago, BASF has once again set a new standard in feed phytase technology with Natuphos E. “This new generation phytase is built on BASF’s long-term experience and expertise, which ensures a very fast and efficient release of phytate-bound phosphorus. As a result, feed manufacturers and farmers will benefit from considerable cost savings through a more efficient diet. This increases the competitiveness of the Taiwanese feed industry”, said Kin Wah Chay, Managing Director of BASF Taiwan. In addition to the high level of phytate-P release, it has even been proven in a plethora of BASF’s feeding trials that quite high amounts of amino acids are released and the animals are enabled to utilize extraordinary additional AME (apparent metabolizable energy).
According to the Food Industry 2016 Report by the Industry & Technology Intelligence Service of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, the local feed industry is valued at more than USD 2.6 billion and has an annual feed production of around 7.5 million metric tons. Most of the phosphorus used in feed is imported. Being a densely-populated place, both Taiwan’s government and people are becoming increasingly concerned about the impacts that the feed industry, especially farms, have on air, water and soil.
“Natuphos E also releases other valuable nutrients, thus aiding animals to be more efficient at digesting their feed. This leads to less excretion of undigested phosphate, which in turn, helps reduce water pollution and better care for the environment”, he added.
Manufactured by BASF in Germany, Natuphos E also delivers superior pelleting and premix stability in challenging environments and feed-production processes, as well as a longer shelf-life and feed stability.
At the Livestock Taiwan Expo, Dr. Lily Li, Regional Technical and Application Manager, BASF Animal Nutrition Asia Pacific, will be providing visitors with more scientific and application insight of Natuphos E at the “New Product Introduction: Natuphos E” seminar held on September 28, 2017 from 2:30 to 3:00 PM at exhibition seminar Room B.
In addition to Natuphos E, visitors to the exhibition will also find BASF’s comprehensive portfolio of animal nutrition solutions including vitamins, glycinates, carotenoids, marketed through BASF’s partner, Kanvergan Animal Nutrition.
