BASF sponsors New Jersey Tree Foundation’s Newark Renaissance Trees Program
FLORHAM PARK, NJ, May 22, 2012 -- BASF has donated $5,000 to the New Jersey Tree Foundation’s Newark Renaissance Trees Program (NRTP), which will use the money to plant more than 100 new trees in the city.
"Reforesting cities improves the environment and the quality of life,” said Charlene Wall-Warren, Sustainability Leader, BASF Corporation. “BASF is pleased to support a program that contributes to the well-being of people and the community."
Earlier this spring, a group of BASF volunteers participated in Newark’s third annual Arbor Day Celebration and planted 19 trees at Lafayette Street School in Newark. Volunteers assembled early on the morning of April 21 to attend a tree planting demonstration and a reading of the Newark Arbor Day Proclamation to mark the start of the tree planting.
Among BASF volunteers were members of BASF’s legal department which has supported activities in Newark through its Pro Bono Partnership and BASF’s Kids’ Lab science education program. Having completed the second annual Kids’ Lab at Newark’s BRICK Academy, Melanie Brown, Assistant General Counsel for BASF in North America, invited students to participate in the Arbor Day Celebration.
“The tree planting provided a perfect extension of the education programs we bring to the students of BRICK Academy,” said Brown “The children who participated will write about the tree planting and contribute their articles to Kids X-Press™, a children’s science literacy magazine sponsored by BASF."
At BASF, sustainable development means balancing the environment, economy and society, therefore, BASF is strongly committed to providing chemistry for society’s greatest challenges including energy-demand, climate protection, population growth and urbanization.
