BASF Canada donates more than $55,000 to local United Way chapters
MISSISSAUGA, ON, February 4, 2013 -- BASF Canada and its employees have donated more than $55,000 to local United Way (UW) organizations.
As part of an employee match program, the Mississauga, Toronto, Saskatoon and Windsor sites raised funds for their local UW. Their efforts resulted in more than $25,000 in employee donations, which was matched by the company.
For more than five years, BASF Canada employees have organized United Way campaigns to help eliminate poverty, support children in need and build stronger communities.
“As a Responsible Care® Company, BASF Canada is committed to serving the communities in which we operate,” said Peter Hasfeld, Director, Finance and Business Services, BASF Canada “With this contribution, the United Way can invest in programs that create opportunities for those in need and strengthen our communities.”
During the campaign period, employees organized various activities ranging from raffles to dance lessons. All money raised was matched by the company.
- The Windsor site donated more than $34,000 to the United Way of Windsor-Essex County.
- The Saskatoon office contributed $1,100 to the United Way of Saskatoon.
- The Mississauga office presented a cheque valued at $13,000 to the United Way of Peel.
- BASF Canada’s Toronto site donated more than $7,000 to the United Way Toronto.
Cheques were presented to the respective charities over the past two months.
Founded in 1917, United Way strives to improve lives and build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action. The organization focuses on three priority areas which are outcome based: From poverty to possibility; healthy people, strong communities; and all that kids can be.
