BASF Canada donates $20,000 to local food banks across Canada
Mississauga, ON, September 11, 2013 -- BASF Canada has donated a total of $20,000 to eight local food banks as part of KeepFit, an employee wellness program.
The KeepFit program encourages BASF Canada employees to improve their wellbeing through increased exercise and activity. Participants kept record of their accomplishments on-line by recording their steps and translating non-walking activities into distance covered.
For the third year in a row, BASF Canada utilized this initiative as an opportunity for a charitable donation. For every kilometer of exercise recorded during the campaign, the company donated $1 to local food banks in communities where it operates.
“BASF encourages its employees to live a healthy and active lifestyle,” said Carles Navarro, President, BASF Canada. “The KeepFit program provides employees with the tools needed to track their progress and a charitable incentive which helps fight hunger in our communities.”
During the summer months, employees walked or exercised the equivalent of 20,000 kilometers. In doing so, they raised $20,000 which was split among eight local food banks.
The following food banks each received a $2,500 contribution:
- Mississauga Food Bank, ON
- The Salvation Army Food Bank – High River, AB
- Food Bank and Learning Centre in Saskatoon, SK
- Regina Food Bank, SK
- Moisson Montréal, QC
- Smiths Falls Community Food Bank, ON
- Agape Centre Cornwall, ON
- Downtown Mission Windsor, ON
