Beaumont educators receive hands-on learning experience at BASF’s Beaumont site

BEAUMONT, TX, July 3, 2019 – Five Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) educators learned about manufacturing and job opportunities in the chemical industry at the BASF site in Beaumont.

The week-long externship, made possible through a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission and supported by five area companies, allowed participants to work side-by-side with BASF employees to receive on-the-job experience and learn about different aspects of site operations.

“As a part of our partnership with BISD schools, there is great value in this program and providing the teachers a better understanding of what we do in manufacturing and the chemical industry,” said Judy Brinkman, Site Director at BASF’s Beaumont site. “It is important that the participants share their experiences with their students and that students understand the career opportunities available in our industry.”

BISD teachers participating in the externship were:

  • Paula Anderson and Peter Greenwood – Beaumont United High School
  • Marco Johnson – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School
  • Abria Fowler-Gordon – Marshall Middle School
  • Troy Burnett – Taylor Career and Technology Center

“The experience changed my perception about manufacturing operations,” said externship participant Troy Burnett, Diesel and Automotive Instructor at Taylor Career and Technology Center. “I learned many valuable lessons, including that safety is paramount at BASF in everything they do for employees, the community and environment. I look forward to sharing my learnings with my students.”

At its Beaumont site, BASF manufactures innovative agricultural products to support sustainable farming practices. For more information about BASF in Texas and jobs available, visit http://www.basf.us/tx.
