BASF donates $10,000 to Chattanooga organizations for Giving Tuesday

CHATTANOOGA, TN, Dec. 3, 2019 — Employees of BASF’s Chattanooga, Tennessee site donated more than $10,000 to local organizations as part of Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement that takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

“BASF strives to be a good community partner focused on the greater good of our neighbors,” said Rob Gagliano, Director of the BASF site in Chattanooga. “As part of our strong commitment to the communities where we operate, we support organizations and missions we are passionate about through donations and volunteering.”

This is the first year BASF has focused its giving around a specific day, but Giving Tuesday is not a new concept. It was created in 2012 to encourage people and organizations to invest in the community through charitable giving and acts of service. Over the last seven years, the idea has grown into a global movement inspiring hundreds of millions of people to transform communities around the world.

“We are very appreciative of BASF’s continued support of our school and students,” said LaFrederick Thirkill, principal of Orchard Knob Elementary School. “This holiday contribution marks the end of a wonderful year of partnership with BASF, from the butterfly garden created this summer to performing Kids’ Lab experiments for World Chemistry Day in October. BASF’s generosity is integral to the success of our school and students.”

The recipients of BASF’s charitable contributions are American Cancer Society, Chattanooga Area Food Bank, Chattanooga Fire Department, Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue Service, Dallas Bay Fire Department, Hamilton County Schools, NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, Northside Neighborhood House, Orchard Knob Elementary School, T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital Foundation, United Way, the Chattanooga affiliate of The Salvation Army and YMCA Chattanooga.

“We are so grateful for BASF's continued investment in our work to provide a hand up to our neighbors in need,” said Rachel Gammon, Executive Director of Northside Neighborhood House. “Without BASF’s faithfulness in supporting our work, we would be unable to offer education and assistance that allow residents to live independently.”
