BASF donates $30,000 to Brazosport Cares Food Pantry

FREEPORT, TX, May 15, 2020 – BASF has donated $30,000 to the Brazosport Cares Food Pantry, which has seen an increased demand resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The donation provides ongoing support to the Freeport-based food pantry, which currently serves an average 250 families every week.

“COVID-19 has had a tremendous impact on Brazosport Cares and our community,” said Christy Frey, Brazosport Cares Executive Director. “So many who have never before needed assistance are now finding themselves out of work and struggling to make ends meet. We saw the number of individuals seeking food assistance triple, and we anticipate the need to remain for some time. We are so grateful for BASF’s continued partnership and support to feeding our community.

The donation to Brazosport Cares Food Pantry to support COVID-19 response is part of a larger gift from BASF in North America totaling $365,000 to food banks within the Feeding America Network. BASF will continue matching employee contributions to food banks or other approved non-profit organizations through the company’s matching gifts program.

"At BASF, we care about the communities where we work and live,” said Chris Witte, Senior Vice President and General Manager for the BASF site in Freeport. "Through these donations, we are continuing to fulfill our commitment to be a good corporate citizen and a trusted neighbor. We are helping ensure sure that the basic needs of health, hunger and safety are being met. And all of us at BASF are proud to be a part of this effort.”
