BASF Sack Hunger Challenge feeds thousands

MANHATTAN, KS, February 22, 2023 – For the eighth year in a row, BASF has supported its annual “Sack Hunger Challenge” for the Kansas Food Bank by donating $100 per defensive sack garnered by the Kansas State (K-State) University Football Team during a 2022 football game.

During halftime at the K-State vs. Iowa basketball game on Saturday February 18, Mike Hofer, K-State Graduate and Director of U.S. Crop Protection at BASF, presented a large-sized check for to help fight a large problem.

“As a fan and a volunteer for this cause, I cheer even louder when the ‘Sack Hunger Challenge’ game is underway because I know the more dollars we help raise for the Kansas Food Bank, the less people will go hungry in our community,” Hofer said.

“With the cost of living increases we have been dealing with over this past year, the food bank has been serving an ever-increasing need” said Brian Walker, President & CEO of the Kansas Food Bank.  “Every donation we receive helps to put food on the table tonight for someone that needs a helping hand. We are grateful for the long running partnership with BASF and for their outstanding support in fighting hunger in Kansas.”

The Kansas Food Bank partners with over 200 food pantries who help provide missing meals to 1 in 8 food insecure Kansans. In addition, the food bank serves over 5,000 chronically hungry children with its Food 4 Kids weekend backpack program and over 1,000 seniors with its senior food box program.

The Kansas Food bank has established an unique BASF giving link where organizations and the public can support them and the work they do in 85 Kansas counties. This year, BASF was able to donate $3,000 from the “Sack Hunger Challenge.
