Waterproofing

Polymers and additives for waterproofing formulations

After structural integrity, the next most important factor in building and construction is waterproofing. Waterproofing systems protect against water intrusion with the goal of maintaining long-term structural durability, surface protection, prevention of mold and mildew buildup due to dampness, and ultimately occupant comfort in buildings.

BASF offers acrylic latex polymers and formulation additives for commercial waterproofing membrane systems that provide water resistance, moisture vapor permeability, waterproofing membrane strength, elongation, flexibility, crack-bridging and adhesion to the underlying substrate.

BASF's polymers and additives are used in three main waterproofing technology categories:

  • Ready-to-use mastics
  • Traditional polymer-modified asphaltic waterproofing
  • High-performance two-component cementitious mortars

In certain applications these liquid applied technologies are preferred over conventional roll-on membrane sheets (e.g., made from bitumen, EPDM, HDPE, PVC or TPO) and over more costly reactive chemistries such as crystalline waterproofing and PU/polyurea/epoxy based systems.
