A picture is worth a thousand words — BASF celebrates success of steam methane reformer project

  • Executive Vice Mayor Wu and Sanjeev Gandhi presented the final two pieces of the jigsaw puzzle, a representation of the MDI integration site, to celebrate the success of BASF’s steam methane reformer (SMR) project during the Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Panel meeting.
  • Approx. 35 students, teachers and parents from Changshou Special Education School visited BASF’s production site

Chongqing, China – September 27, 2019 – It is a common adage that “a picture is worth a thousand words.” So, what better way to celebrate the success of BASF’s ground-breaking steam methane reformer (SMR) project, started in 2017, than by inviting students from the Changshou Special Education School to complete a jigsaw puzzle of BASF’s methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) integration site? Mr. Wu Cunrong, Executive Vice Mayor of Chongqing Municipal Government, and Mr. Sanjeev Gandhi, Member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, responsible for Asia Pacific, placed the final two pieces of the jigsaw puzzle.

“We have hosted the Good Neighbor Program in Chongqing for the past eleven years,” said Sanjeev Gandhi, member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, responsible for Asia Pacific. “Our SMR project is on schedule, has been operating steadily from the beginning of this year, and has played a crucial role in improving the reliability of the MDI integration. Our supply reliability is extremely important for our customers in today’s challenging market conditions. In addition, we would like to leverage this opportunity to engage with the local community, including younger generations and volunteers.”

BASF’s Good Neighbor Program coincides with the Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Panel, which takes place in Yuelai International Conference Center this year. Over the past week, BASF has also donated polyurethane sports tracks to Changshou Special Education School and remains a committed long-term partner to the local community, to future generations, and to creating chemistry for a sustainable future.
