Shanghai, China – March 14, 2023 – BASF announced today that it will participate in the upcoming Food Ingredients China (FIC) 2023 trade show taking place from March 15 to 17 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. FIC is one of the leading, international tradeshows for ingredients in Asia Pacific.

Visitors can experience market samples including BASF ingredients as well as lab prototypes. For example, a “bright eye” mint candy fortified with lutein esters to support eye health and which some studies suggest supports the production of macular pigment. Macular pigment acts as a blue light filter protecting the retina against oxidative damage.

Another example, oral disintegrating tablets fortified with vitamin D3, are highly sought by consumers to support a healthy immune system and feature formulation innovation.

Repeated resurgence and frequent mutations of the coronavirus in 2022 created uncertainty and concerns for consumers, thus making them pay more attention to personal health and wellness. As a global ingredients supplier for the nutrition industry, BASF is committed to delivering high-quality vitamins and carotenoids that support the health and wellness industry.

“BASF places a high value on developing new technologies, improving production processes, and tailoring service offerings based on changes and demands in the market. Our various solutions greatly meet the growing needs for healthy nutrition in this post-pandemic era”, said Martin Wolf, Director Sales Management Human Nutrition, Vitamins & Carotenoids, Asia Pacific.

Driving innovations and sustainability in nutrition

  • Expansion of the vitamin A acetate plant in 2021 increased BASF’s total annual nameplate capacity for vitamin A acetate to 3,800 metric tons. With this expansion, BASF enhanced its vitamin A production to ensure a best-in-class CO2 footprint and efficient use of resources.
  • Visitors to the booth can take a deep-dive into BASF’s global Verbund production sites that builds the basis for sustainable ingredient production.
  • Furthermore, we showcase our latest innovative applications of health ingredients like Lucarotin® synthetic beta-carotene and Betatene® natural mixed carotenoids to support health and wellness.

New ingredients that deliver superb taste and performance

  • Discover BASF’s broad portfolio of premium food and health performance ingredients at FIC. Choose from our wide range of easy-to-use solutions including whipping agents (Lamequick®), aerating system (Spongolit®), functional fat powders (Cegepal® & Delios®), conjugated linoleic acid (Tonalin®) and plant sterols (Vegapure®).
  • Visitors at the booth will have the first-hand experience of a delicious selection of baked goods and desserts prepared with Spongolit® and Lamequick®.

Explore a sensory journey with aroma ingredients for versatile use in scents and food flavorings

The fresh and cooling properties of mint is a timeless ingredient used in varied confectionaries, sweets, beverage as well as personal care. As a leading supplier of manufactured menthol globally and in China, BASF is strongly committed to delivering consistent and high-quality menthol ingredients to support our customers in their growth journey. At FIC 2023, BASF will showcase a range from its menthol portfolio and natural aroma ingredients for the food and flavoring markets with two products from its subsidiary, Isobionics®. Visitors can take delight in natural Valencene and Nootkatone, two products with a citrus-based note, manufactured by fermentation technology.

(Isobionics® is an innovation leader on producing natural aroma ingredients, serving the global market for natural flavor and fragrances. It was acquired by BASF in 2019.)
