High energy-efficiency can be reached with even thin layers of insulation, ensuring that even the smallest buildings meet official safety and energy standards. 

Another insulation innovation to save energy, reduce CO₂, and maintain a pleasant indoor climate is Cavipor^®. It is a unique mineral-based clay foam created by BASF for energy-efficient renovation of buildings with double-shell masonry. Installers inject the foam through small holes, where it fills the cavities seamlessly — making it ideal for upgrading drafty homes without major construction works. After use, the foam can be disposed of along with construction waste without having to painstakingly separate it during renovations or demolitions or re-used as a foundation material. Cavipor is now also approved for insulating roofs and ceilings and more than 2,000 houses in Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, and the UK have already benefited from its dust-free, recyclable, and non-combustible properties.

And now we're taking insulation to the next level with our biomass balance concept. Fossil-based raw materials are substituted in our production chain with the equivalent amount of renewable feedstocks produced from organic waste, such as leftover food, vegetable oils, agricultural waste and crops.  The renewable feedstocks are attributed to BASF products via an independently certified mass balance method. This achieves greater resource efficiency, the same high performance as fossil-based products and helps our customers reach their sustainability goals.

Takazuri’s Climatile™ roofing and cladding system incorporates locally sourced and processed post-consumer waste. Compared to standard metal roofs, Climatile’s superior insulation and solar reflection properties keep roofs and walls cooler and enhance indoor temperatures. It also offers a safe rainwater-harvesting surface without corrosion. 

To protect the system against the region's challenging weather conditions, BASF has provided specialized additives that enable Climatile™ to withstand long-term outdoor exposure making it an affordable and effective solution.   

The collaboration includes projects from homes, schools, healthcare, humanitarian aid, as well as commercial and industrial buildings. But the initiative is not just about building sustainable construction, it's about fostering sustainable communities.  

Basotect^® EcoBalanced is a melamine resin foam made with 100% green electricity. Manufactured with BASF’s biomass balance approach, this new foam has a product carbon footprint up to 50% lower than equivalent standard grades. It is used for sound proofing and thermal insulation and is ideal for restaurants, reception areas, meeting rooms, airplane cabins, engine covers, air conditioning equipment, wall sound absorbers and many other applications in the transportation and construction industries.  It performs just as well as the standard Basotect^®, so no changes are needed in manufacturing processes, and it enables our customers to reduce the use of fossil resources and lower emissions.
