BASF backs Panasonic’s launch of the first luminaire meeting the highest performance level in China

  • BASF's optical film provides excellent anti-glare features and safeguards eyes’ well-being
  • Panasonic’s "SHIYUE" study luminaire becomes one of the first products in China certified with the highest performance level

Panasonic, one of the world's leading luminaire manufacturers, incorporates BASF's optical film NovaFlex GlareControl for its new study luminaire "SHIYUE". The innovative film offers excellent anti-glare properties, allowing the product to meet the highest performance level of a new standard set by the China Quality Certification Center. This standard defines the performance requirements for all moveable luminaires for writing and reading application. The highest performance level, AAAAA, could only be met by using BASF’s solution for glare reduction.

NovaFlex GlareControl is based on the innovative FunTex technology, that allows the production of micro-structured films in a roll-to-roll process. the product contains millions of microlenses that control the direction of light. Compared with luminaires not using anti-glare technology, the Panasonic solution equipped with BASF’s optical film reduces more than 50% light emitting towards people’s eyes. That’s how the luminaire meets the top performance level requirements of the new Chinese standard and creates a comfortable and healthy lighting environment.

“BASF's optical film products will play an important role in lighting industry. Panasonic looks forward to working with BASF to innovate together in the fields of health and green lighting, and create better life for consumers,” said Zhenyu Zhao, head of Panasonic Lighting Space Division.

“Panasonic’s launch of a luminaire equipped with our product is an important milestone for us to enter the Asian market with our optical films. Panasonic, as a well-known consumer brand, is a strong reference for our activities in the lighting industry,” said Martin Friedrich, Head of Optical Films at BASF’s “Beyond Paint Solutions” business unit.
