Who we are

1914 / Agricultural Research Station

After the successful implementation of fertilizer production from synthetic ammonia in 1913, BASF opens its Agricultural Research Station Limburgerhof (today’s BASF Agricultural Center Limburgerhof) not far from Ludwigshafen in 1914. The purpose of this facility is to determine the effect of fertilizers on the soil and plants by extensive trials as customers are to obtain precise instructions on how to use them. This paves the way for BASF’s worldwide activities in the field of agricultural chemistry.

After 1945, crop protection is included as a new work area.
