X-ELIO powers on Texas solar-and-storage plant that will supply BASF Freeport operations
X-ELIO has officially launched operations at its Liberty Energy Project in Dayton, Texas. The Liberty project, which combines 72 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity with an additional 60 MW of battery storage capacity, is X-ELIO’s first combined solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) project in the United States. With Liberty now operational, 100% of the expected power at BASF’s Freeport site will be supplied by renewable energy.

BASF and Equinor confirm strategic partnership and sign ten-year natural gas supply agreement
July 18, 2025 - BASF and Equinor have signed a long-term strategic agreement for the annual delivery of up to 23 terawatt hours (around 2bcm) of natural gas over a ten-year period. The contract secures a substantial share of BASF’s natural gas needs in Europe. Deliveries will start on October 1st, 2025.
Chemetall moves towards sustainability goals by using 100% renewable electricity at its Langelsheim site in Germany
The Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, has made a significant advancement in its sustainability journey by transitioning its Langelsheim production facility in Germany to 100% renewable electricity. This move is another significant step towards Chemetall’s ambitious goal of utilizing 80% renewable energy across all its sites by 2025. The electricity, provided by BASF Renewable Energy, is sourced from a mix of solar and wind power, leading to an estimated reduction of approximately 620 tons of CO2 emissions in 2025.

BASF’s Intermediates division converts its entire European amines portfolio to 100 percent renewable electricity
BASF’s Intermediates division, one of the world’s largest amines producers, is taking the next step towards more sustainability by converting its entire European amines portfolio to 100 percent renewable electricity. The transition starts in May 2025 and will apply to all amines produced at the European production sites in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Antwerp, Belgium.
 
The individual electrolyzer modules are linked to each other and to the H2 network at the site in three so-called arrays.

BASF commissions 54-megawatt water electrolyzer
Germany’s largest proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer has gone into operation at BASF’s Ludwigshafen site. Designed to produce zero-carbon hydrogen, the electrolyzer has a connected load of 54 megawatts and the capacity to supply the main plant with up to one metric ton of this substantial chemical feedstock every hour. After a construction period of around two years, the plant was officially inaugurated today in the presence of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Minister for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, and Mobility Katrin Eder, and Udo Philipp, State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
