With the aim of providing high-quality services from a single source, BASF decided to establish a so-called “Shared Services Center (SSC)” in 2005. This means, processes like financial accounting and payroll accounting are created centrally at the SSC Berlin as well as recruiting of new employees or purchsing of goods and materials. While Finance and Human Resources were part of the portfolio right from the beginning, tasks for Controlling were added in 2015 and for Procurement in 2017.
The focus of the SSC Berlin is on the more than 250 BASF companies in the Region Europe. We bundle most of their administrative tasks, so that the BASF companies can stay focused on their core tasks, such as research or production. By combining innovative technologies such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Machine Learning and Data Analytics with systems that have been in existence for many years, we continue to drive our competitiveness and provide a wealth of experience and personal commitment to future-oriented services.
Furthermore, we create value-adding connections far beyond the borders of Europe. Together with the SSCs in Kuala Lumpur and Montevideo, we form a global shared services organization, which also includes employees from the Ludwigshafen headquarters. Our expertise is valued around the globe in a variety of BASF Group projects and initiatives.
We do not need any labs or production facilities to provide our services. But there is one thing we definitely cannot do without at our site: our international and dynamic team. We are 34 years old on average, come from over 40 countries and provide services for our customers in 21 languages. Together, we competently look after every BASF Group company in their respective national language.
Diversity & Inclusion are practiced daily at SSC, team spirit and commitment are top priorities. This is reflected in our colorful mix of activities. Once a year, our exhibition "Artists Incognito" presents works of art by employees - from drawings and photographs to fashion and furniture to music and dance performances. For smaller and larger events, our in-house choir and the band perform, and sports employees take part in the Berlin company run and football tournaments or fight for the SSC Challenge Cup at the annual table tennis tournament.
Are you interested in becoming involved in a powerful and dynamic team that lives Diversity & Inclusion on a daily basis? - Then visit our career page and apply now. We are looking forward to see you!
The place where our employees currently post invoices, recruit new colleagues and buy goods, was used to produce light bulbs for eight decades – first by Osram, later by the Berlin incandescent lamp factory and by NARVA (the largest incandescent lamp manufacturer in the DDR). Thanks to its impressive glass cube construction, the tower now has 63 meters and is visible in Berlin's Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district. Especially at night, the glass cube impresses with thousands of LEDs, which remind of the past times in an energy-saving way.
With the steady expansion of our services, the space required for the growing number of employees has increased. What began with a handful of colleagues and a few floors in the tower has been reached today offices for employees not only the entire tower, but also almost the entire brick building around. We are located in the heart of Berlin and the public transport stops almost at the door - no matter suburban train, subway, tram or bus. Directly in front of the door you can find the diverse Berlin cultural life and the river Spree, which is in walking distance.
