BASF invests in new formgiving, powder blending and packaging lines at its antioxidants plant in Singapore

  • New Free Flow (FF) formgiving capacity enables wider range of forms supplied directly from the plant to customers
  • Modern, highly automated machines improve packaging standards

Singapore – January 31, 2018 – BASF has invested in formgiving, powder blending and automated packaging lines at its antioxidants plant on Jurong Island, Singapore. The investment in packaging comprises several modern Form, Fill and Seal machines imported from Germany. The highly automated packaging lines will produce form stable, water-tight and water-resistant bags.

“With this investment, we extend the plant’s offerings to customers to include compacted free flow antioxidants and antioxidant blends,” noted Hermann Althoff, Senior Vice President, Performance Chemicals Asia Pacific. “Additionally, the new packaging lines will replace previously outsourced packaging and significantly increase our packaging quality standards.”

Shaken, not stirred

The new packaging lines improve handling of delicate antioxidant powders, and reduce dust during filling. They provide a firm, consistently sized bag by compacting the product with interior and bottom vibration units. Thanks to micro-vibrations, air bubbles inside the product automatically move to the top. The main advantage of this mechanical procedure is that, in contrast to vacuum systems, even air trapped deep inside the powder can be removed. The filled bags are safely sealed in low-maintenance pulse welding stations and then transported to the bag forming section. An “air-brush” technology cleans the seal area prior to heat-sealing so that the melting is not disturbed by powder sticking around the seal.

The integrated compaction system assures delivery of the goods in perfect condition to customers.
