BASF’s insulation system SLENTEX® makes Hokushu Premium Passive House more energy efficient
- SLENTEX® helps Passive House achieve energy savings of over 60% against standard BEI (Building Energy Index)
Tokyo, Japan – October 28, 2016 – SLENTEX®, BASF’s insulation material, has been adopted by Hokushu for external thermal insulation in its new Passive House in Japan. The high-performance insulation material, based on silica aerogel, not only significantly improves energy efficiency, but also demonstrates excellent fire-resistance performance. Compared to conventional insulation materials, it provides better thermal insulation even at lower thickness. As such, SLENTEX enables flexible design and high energy efficiency.
The Hokushu Premium Passive House is designed to achieve energy savings of more than 60 percent according to the standards of the Building Energy Index (BEI). With state-of-the-art insulation materials from BASF and indoor climate control solutions, together with an established Passive House design, indoor temperature fluctuation is minimized and this contributes to high energy efficiency.
“Projects such as the Hokushu Premium Passive House are excellent examples of how we collaborate with industry leaders to showcase the potential contribution of insulation systems such as SLENTEX, aiming for a zero energy house,” said Andy Postlethwaite, Senior Vice President, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF.
“Our priority is ‘Comfort, Health and Energy saving’ for customers. We would like to achieve an ideal thermal environment using the architectural approach, such as insulation technology with minimum reliance on machinery and equipment. SLENTEX is a great material that can achieve high thermal insulation in a thin wall,” said Hideki Ishihara, Institute Manager, Archtechtural institute, Hokushu.
Construction of the Hokushu Premium Passive House is scheduled to start from October 31, 2016.
