BASF fundraiser benefits Michigan Multiple Sclerosis

WYANDOTTE, MI, August 2, 2012 -- The BASF Women in Business (WIB) employee group made a splash at a fundraising event to help benefit Michigan Multiple Sclerosis.

The group sponsored a carnival at BASF’s Wyandotte, Michigan, facility on July 25, 2012. The highlight of the event was a dunk tank - employees had the chance to toss softballs at a target that sent good natured management volunteers into a tank of water. Nearly 500 employees attended the carnival held at BASF’s Wyandotte site.

In addition to the dunk tank, employees were able to visit booths with information on various BASF groups - including Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), the African-American Employee Group, and the Asian Business Community Group - and enjoy food and refreshments. The event helped bring the total of money raised by BASF employees to support Michigan Multiple Sclerosis to more than $15,600 this year.

"This was a great way to make a difference in people's lives,” said Terri Willman, 2012 chairperson of BASF’s Wyandotte/Livonia WIB Group. “Thanks to our employees who participated in our recent MS Walk and this carnival event, we are supporting the efforts of Michigan Multiple Sclerosis to help eradicate this crippling disease.”

Michigan Multiple Sclerosis serves nearly 18,000 local residents with MS and their families. The Chapter's five regions offer an extensive service portfolio coordinated by a dedicated staff and thousands of volunteers across the state of Michigan.

The mission of BASF’s Women in Business employee group is to help BASF implement programs that attract, develop, promote and retain women in response to the changing markets. The programs offered through WIB help address the challenges of a changing economic, business and social landscape.

BASF’s Wyandotte site spans more than 2,100 acres and hosts multiple business groups, functions and manufacturing plants that produce a variety of urethane and specialty plastics products. The site employs about 1,150 full-time and contract employees.
