BASF donates $5,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters

SOUTHFIELD, MI, October 23, 2012 -- Employees of BASF’s Southfield, Michigan facility recently donated $5,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit (BBBSMD). The donation will support BBBSMD’s “Lunch Buddies” mentoring program in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.

“Mentoring works,” said Karen Cummins, Business Services Manager, Coatings, for BASF in North America. “Our donation not only endorses their work but helps them to expand their capacity to provide more children with more mentors.”

BBBSMD provides mentors to nearly 1200 youth annually. Since 1989, BASF’s employees in Southfield have supported the non-profit’s mission.

“By partnering with our community supporters like BASF, we are able to further our efforts of assuring that each child in our program achieves higher aspirations, greater self-confidence and healthier relationships,” saidDara Munson, President and CEO, Big Brother Big Sister of Metropolitan Detroit. “Mentoring is a key strategy toward educational success.  The donation comes at an opportune time for the agency, which now has nearly 100 youths on its waiting list.
