BASF Charlotte donates $15,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina

CHARLOTTE, NC, September 4, 2013 -- BASF Charlotte held its fourth annual food drive in August and donated more than $15,000 and nearly one ton of food to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (SHFBM).

During the weeklong drive, BASF employees from the company’s Paper Chemicals, Dispersions and Pigments, and Care Chemicals businesses divided into teams and held a competition to determine which team could raise the most money in support of SHFBM.

“Each year, BASF has stepped up and shown outstanding support to Second Harvest, and we are extremely proud to have BASF as part of our community,” said Toni Morris, Development - Food Drive Coordinator, SHFBM.

BASF employees also contributed by shopping for items needed to support the SHFBM Backpack Program. The Backpack Program is designed to provide children at risk of hunger with backpacks full of ready-to-eat, nutritious food for weekends and holidays when school meals are not available. The program currently operates 102 sites in 17 counties throughout North and South Carolina.

“We believe it’s important to actively support the communities in which we work and live. Rallying around SHFBM is just one way we can demonstrate our commitment to the Charlotte community,” said Jim Tanger, the 2013 food drive coordinator for BASF.
