BASF volunteers help renovate Cody High School to benefit student learning

WYANDOTTE, MI, August 25, 2014 – BASF recently joined with Life Remodeled, a non-profit organization, to renovate Cody High School and the surrounding Cody-Rouge Community in Detroit, giving students a better learning environment.

BASF supported the improvements to Cody High by providing epoxy flooring material, Smart Boards, work stations, furniture, a power washer, chemistry lab equipment, cabinets, buffet stations for their new home economics center and an $18,000 donation to fund the new high-tech STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) lab.

More than 200 BASF employees volunteered, improving the school grounds, painting an outside mural, painting and outfitting the new STEM lab and installing the donated Smart Boards. They also beautified the adjacent Cody-Rouge which included a baseball field and tennis courts.

“It was an incredible sight to see so many BASF employees from across southeast Michigan join together to create chemistry in the community,” said Greg Pflum, BASF’s Vice President and General Manager – Midwest Hub. “Education is key to the future of our children and the development of society as a whole. Through this initiative, we helped create a new environment that encourages academic achievement.”
