Changes to ID cards at the Ludwigshafen site

ID cards are a key security feature at BASF. To increase protection against unauthorized access to the Ludwigshafen site and to specially secured buildings or rooms, new security regulations apply to ID cards.

To help you implement these changes, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Frequently asked questions:

1. Who is affected by the suspension?
Contractors, site partners, and third parties on site who hold a BASF SE ID card and have not used it for more than 45 days.
2. After what period of time does the ID card become blocked if not used?

The ID card will be deactivated after 45 days.

3. How can I unlock my own ID card?

Third parties on site and external companies can reactivate their ID cards in the following ways:

  • Via the BASF Self Service portal, provided they have access to the portal.

  • At the ID card and reception offices of BASF SE.

  • Through plant security at any plant entrance manned by plant security personnel.
4. Do you also lose IT authorizations when your ID card is blocked?

No, only the ID card will be blocked. IT authorizations can still be used and are not affected by this.

5. Can I unlock my ID card myself even if I don't have access to the self-service portal?

No, it is not possible to unlock your own ID card without access to the self-service portal.

6. Can a company's dispatcher unlock its employees' ID cards via the self-service portal?

No, each employee can only unlock their own ID card in the  BASF Self Service Portal . It is not possible for the dispatcher to unlock one or more ID cards.

7. What requirements must be met in order to gain access to the self-service portal?
  1. The person must have a BASF plant ID card
  2. A personal company email address must be stored in the “Security System” portal

8. What should I do if the key function of my company ID card no longer works?

The company ID card functions like a key at doors and in areas that only certain people are allowed to enter. These so-called ‘offline authorisations’, which are stored on the ID card, will expire after 45 days instead of the previous 99 days.To keep the “key function” active or to reload it onto the ID card after the 45-day window has expired, the ID card must be “recharged” at a refuelling reader.

This usually happens “in passing”, so to speak, because the refuelling function is often integrated into the reader that opens a secure area, for example. Alternatively, please use the reader where the authorisation was first loaded. The building management team can provide information on the location of the refuelling readers.
