Strong footprint in all regions gives BASF resilience; EBITDA before special items nearly at prior-year quarter level

“In the first quarter of 2025, BASF held its position in an increasingly challenging environment. EBITDA before special items was at about the level of the prior-year quarter and was in line with average analyst estimates,” said BASF’s Chief Financial Officer Dr. Dirk Elvermann at the presentation of the first-quarter results in a conference call for analysts and investors. He stressed the economic benefits of having production assets in all key regions worldwide. In light of the recent market developments around the U.S. tariff announcements, Elvermann said: “We produce locally for the local markets. Especially in these challenging times, this makes us more resilient than others and is a competitive advantage.”

Chemetall moves towards sustainability goals by using 100% renewable electricity at its Langelsheim site in Germany

The Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, has made a significant advancement in its sustainability journey by transitioning its Langelsheim production facility in Germany to 100% renewable electricity. This move is another significant step towards Chemetall’s ambitious goal of utilizing 80% renewable energy across all its sites by 2025. The electricity, provided by BASF Renewable Energy, is sourced from a mix of solar and wind power, leading to an estimated reduction of approximately 620 tons of CO2 emissions in 2025.
With BASF’s Licity® 2698 X F binder, and Group14’s advanced silicon battery material, SCC55®, the performance of batteries with silicon-dominant anodes is greatly enhanced.

Pluriol® A 2400 I is an isoprenol-PEG (iPEG) that is used to create third-generation superplasticizers that offer better performance in terms of flow characteristics and durability.
