September 23, 2020

On September 21, Federal Minister Hubertus Heil and State Secretary Björn Böhning, as chairman of the jury, announced the five winning companies of the German Corporate Social Responsibility Award of the Federal Government in digital form. BASF received the CSR Prize 2020 in the main category of companies with 1,000 or more employees.

In its statement, the jury emphasized BASF’s long-standing commitment to CSR and its comprehensive sustainability strategy. The strategy has an impact in all areas of the company and is aligned with international standards. BASF is playing a pioneering role, particularly in integrated reporting and the presentation of CO₂ emissions and is encouraging the implementation of sustainability at other companies in the industry through transparency.

“We are pleased that our long-standing strategic focus on sustainable development has been recognized. In particular, the fact that critical stakeholders and an independent jury decided in our favor is a great honor. At the same time, it is exactly the right incentive to further develop our sustainability strategy and to extend our pioneering role,” said Martin Brudermüller.

A total of 168 applications for the CSR Prize were received from committed companies all over Germany. In January 2020, 25 companies were nominated in five award categories. The members of the expert jury, which included representatives from politics, civil society and academia, selected this year’s winning companies based on a multi-stage, scientifically sound survey.
